Inotec can cross-section any coating we apply, and do Micro Hardness Testing in that cross section (which can be as thin as .001"). A P.T.A. coating serves as an example of how important this is: if the carbide particles in the coating are not applied in the proper way, the particles can fall out of solution which may lead to disbonding or premature wear.
Controlled Environment = Controlled Quality
In order to apply a quality electroplated coating, all aspects of the plating process must be controlled. The way Inotec controls and checks electroplated coatings is the same as the methods used for Thermal Spray and P.T.A.. From the chemical composition of the bath used, to the temperature the material is plated at - all aspects are strictly controlled so the unique coating characteristics are adhered to.
Checking the cross-section of the electro-plated coating serves to ensure bond, porosity and structure, as well as Micro Hardness.
Inotec’s laboratory also has the ability to mount, polish, etch and photograph cross section samples to show our Customers all aspects of the applied material. This is critical for the development of applications to best suit Customer requirements.
